With 24-hour home care, a caregiver is with your loved one around the clock. Our caregivers work in scheduled shifts, so someone awake and alert is always in the home, including overnight.
A La Carte does not offer live-in care services. We do offer 24-hour care, and that difference matters: with live-in care, one caregiver stays in the home and is given time to sleep. Shift-based care is the better fit when your loved one needs help during the night, wanders, or can't be left unsupervised for long.
How does it work?
Round-the-clock care is split into three shifts — day, evening, and overnight — with overnight usually the longest. The exact hours are up to you: we agree when each shift starts and ends, and when the changeover happens, based on what works for your family and on caregiver availability.
There's no set schedule to fit into. We start with a plan that makes sense today, and adjust it whenever your family's needs change.
Care is available around the clock, 7 days a week: day, evening, and overnight, including weekends.
When to consider 24-hour home care in Plymouth
People usually call us when they or someone they love:
- can no longer stay home alone safely
- has fallen, or is at high risk of falling
- needs help getting to the bathroom at night
- has Alzheimer's or dementia and wanders, or becomes confused or anxious in the evening (sundowning)
- needs help with transfers, toileting, or personal care
- is coming home after a hospital stay or surgery
- depends on a family caregiver who is worn out
If a few of these sound familiar, it's a good time to talk. Planning ahead is much easier than arranging care in a crisis.
24-hour home care services in Plymouth from A La Carte
As our name suggests, you choose only the help you need, and we put it together into one plan. Some people start with overnight care and add day or evening shifts later. Others need someone there around the clock from the first day. Either way, 24-hour care can include any mix of:
Personal care
bathing and showering, dressing and grooming, toileting and incontinence care, moving around the home, and safe transfers.
Around the home
meal planning and cooking, light housekeeping, laundry and fresh linens, grocery shopping, and medication reminders.
Company and connection
conversation, activities that keep the mind engaged, rides to appointments and errands, and emotional support.
Safety
fall-risk recommendations for the home, steady supervision, and a calm response if something goes wrong. Your caregiver contacts emergency services and your family right away.
Every caregiver is experienced, trained, background-checked, and insured, and supported by our owner-led team.

A La Carte Private Home Care LLC provides non-medical home care. If you or your loved one also needs nursing or therapy, we're glad to work alongside the medical team.
Overnight care in Plymouth
For many families, nights are where help is needed first. With our Overnight Watch and Overnight Care, a caregiver stays through the night to:
- help with bathroom visits and getting in and out of bed
- lower the risk of nighttime falls
- give medication reminders
- watch for wandering
- help your loved one change position and get comfortable
- settle confusion or anxiety
Your loved one is safer, and you can get a full night's sleep again. Overnight care is available on its own or as part of 24-hour care.

Alzheimer's and dementia care at home
Our caregivers have experience supporting people with Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, frontotemporal dementia, and general memory loss. They are trained to support memory changes and shifts in behavior.
We keep each day calm and predictable, because familiar routines help reduce confusion and agitation. We encourage conversation and simple activities, and we help make the home safer, all while protecting your loved one's dignity and independence.
Families often move to 24-hour dementia care when a loved one starts wandering, forgetting medications, leaving the stove on, waking often at night, or can no longer be left alone safely.
Respite care, hospital sitting, and couples care in Plymouth
Respite care
Caring for a husband, wife, parent, or anyone you love takes a lot out of you. Our respite care gives you a real break, whether that's a few hours a week, an overnight, a weekend, a vacation, or temporary 24-hour care after an illness.
Hospital Sitter
During a hospital stay, including at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Plymouth, a caregiver can stay at the bedside for company and supervision. Care can then continue once your loved one is home.
Couples Care
When both spouses need support, we build one plan that keeps them together at home.
Why families choose home care over a facility
Many people in Plymouth would rather stay at home than move to a nursing home or assisted living. With home care, you or your loved one can:
- stay in the home and neighborhood they know
- keep their own routines
- have one-on-one attention
- stay close to family, friends, and neighbors
- keep as much independence as possible
It's what our slogan means: the best care, in the best place, your own home.

“A La Carte has been a life saver for our family. They have cared for our mother with such compassion understanding her needs while respecting her desire for independence. She never wanted to accept help but when she met Jessica and Patty she was willing to try. She now looks forward to seeing them for every visit. They have become part of our family. I cannot recommend them enough.”
